Vanguard Supercritical

Water above its critical point, 45% thermal efficiency, and no steam generator. Announced, not yet open.

Above 22 MPa and 374 °C water stops distinguishing between liquid and gas, which means a reactor can drive a turbine directly with no steam generator and no boiling crisis to design around. Thermal efficiency rises from roughly 33% to 45%. The unresolved problem is materials: very few alloys tolerate supercritical water, radiation and time simultaneously.

Principal risks of this offering

  • Cladding corrosion in supercritical water is the central unsolved problem and may not be solvable with qualified alloys.
  • TRL 4. Components have been validated; no integrated loop has operated.
  • This offering is announced and not yet accepting commitments. Terms may change before it opens.
  • Accredited investors only.

General risks of private securities

Private securities are speculative and illiquid. You should be prepared to hold this position for its full term and to lose the entire amount invested. Nuclear construction has a documented history of schedule and cost overrun. Platforms that sold equity in unbuilt energy projects have mostly failed; those that sold debt against operating assets with contracted offtake have mostly survived. That history is why the TRL tier of an offering matters more than its headline return.

A TRL score is not a prediction and not a rating. Read the offering documents in full before committing capital.
