Remix Nuclear Fuels

Convertible notes on electrochemical separation of nuclear waste.

Used fuel retains most of its energy content. Electrochemical separation in a molten salt bath splits it into a recyclable stream a fast reactor can burn and a much smaller waste stream with a far shorter hazard life. The technical case is strong and the political case for anything resembling reprocessing in the United States is not.

Technology readiness level, 1 to 9

Confidence band 4.15.7

Electrorefining has been demonstrated at pilot scale on genuine used fuel at a national laboratory facility, which is component validation in a relevant environment and therefore level 5. The waste form has not been qualified and no application has been filed. The commercial question is a policy judgment as much as a technical one: the customers for the product are fast reactors that do not yet operate, and United States policy has discouraged separation technology for fifty years.

At TRL 5, the ladder permits Convertible note and releases up to 30% of committed capital. This offering is structured as a convertible note, which is consistent with that band.
